Secondly for today, another of my late mother's holiday favourites.

Santa's Whiskers

Very fancy cookies, and a Christmas household treat, thanks Mom.

Ingredients:

1 cup butter (or margarine, if so desired)

1 cup white granulated sugar

2 tbsp. milk

1 tsp. vanilla (or rum) extract

2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

3/4 cups each of finely chopped red and green candied cherries and flaked coconut

1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

Directions:

In mixing bowl, cream together butter (or margarine) and sugar, blend in milk and chosen extract.

Stir in flour, candied cherries and nuts. Form into 2 rolls, each 2 inches in diameter and 8 inches

long. Roll in the coconut. Wrap and chill for several hours, or overnight, as preferred. Slice 1/4 inch

thick and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in pre-heated oven at 375 degrees F. for 12 minutes,

or until edges are golden. Makes about 5 dozen (60) cookies total, to enjoy as a festive dessert or snack.
