Keeping it light and simple during these "dog days" of summer, firstly today;

Apple-Oatmeal Crisp

Ingredients:

3 cups sliced apples

1 cup white sugar

1 tsp. salt

1/4 cup water

2 cups brown sugar

2 cups oatmeal

1 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp. cinnamon

3/4 cups shortening

Directions:

Place the apples in an 8 by 11 inch pan. Cover with granulated white sugar, 1/4 tsp. salt and water. Mix 

together the brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, remaining salt, cinnamon and shortening in a bowl until well 

blended, and pour the mixture onto the top of the apple mixture. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees 

F. for approx. 40 minutes, or until the apples are tender. Serve with your favourite flavour of ice 

cream, and enjoy this wonderful dessert after your favourite meal, preferably dinner/supper, or even 

serve it as a snack if so desired.
