A new twist on another classic, perfect for breakfast or Sunday brunch.
French Toast
Ingredients:
4 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tbsp. pure maple syrup
2 tsp. vanilla (extract)
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
8 slices challah egg bread (or brioche), (or use bread of choice) cut 1 inch thick
1/2 cup very finely chopped pecans
2 tbsp. divided butter (sticks, etc., own choice)
Garnishes:
As preferred;
Maple syrup
Whipped cream
Fresh berries
Pecans
Directions:
Place bread into small, light dish with mixture of liquid ingredients until mixture has been fully
absorbed by the bread. In a separate shallow dish, spread chopped pecans. Dredge bread one slice at a
time into pecans, to make a thin, even coating. Repeat with remaining pieces of bread. Melt 2 tsp. of
the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange 2 pieces of bread in a single layer in the skillet,
and cook until well browned on both sides, about 5 minutes for each side. Transfer to a plate and keep
in a 200 degrees F. oven. Repeat with remaining butter and bread. Serve immediately with your
favourite garnish, even icing sugar if you wish, and as always, enjoy this great start to any day.
